Flying Changes

“Teaching a horse flying changes can seem like a monumental task. It can be one of the most frustrating things to teach our horses (but also the most rewarding). The more you can simplify it, the better.
Always make your horse’s canter quality your main focus. When changes don’t work, there is almost always something with the canter quality that needs to be improved. Make sure to have eyes on the ground, or at least ride in front of mirrors, to verify if the changes are going through the right way or not.
Along with diligence about the canter quality, the most important thing is to have endless patience. Once you start down the flying change path, enjoy the journey because that’s what makes it so rewarding once your horse gets them!”
